Windows XP VPN Setup Guide

Open the My Computer window from the Start menu.

 

From the My Computer window, click the link for My Network Places.

 

From the My Network Places window, click the link for View network connections.

 

In the Network Connections window, click the link for Create a new connection to start the New Connection Wizard.

 

Click Next.

 

Select the option for Connect to the network at my workplace, then click Next.

 

Select the option for Virtual Private Network connection, then click Next.

 

Enter a name for your VPN connection in the Company Name field, such as UCF VPN, then click Next.

 

Enter the address of the VPN server in the space provided.  The address is vpn3030.ucf.edu.  When you are finished, click Next.

 

Click Finish to complete the wizard.

 

Your VPN connection will appear in the Network Connections window.  To open a VPN session, double-click the VPN icon.

 

Enter your Network ID (NID) in the User name field, then enter the VPN password you  created on the My VPN site.  Click Connect to start the VPN session.

 

As your PC initiates a new VPN session, the following progress window will be displayed:

 

Once the conenction has been established, an icon will appear in your system tray to indicate an active VPN session.  The VPN icon in the Network Connections window will also display your VPN status.

 

 When are are finished using the VPN connection, open the VPN status window by double-clicking the VPN icon.  To end the session, click the Disconnect button.
